To enhance the allure and enjoyment of sports, a sports administrator based in Ekiti has championed the integration of sports and entertainment.

Mr. Bayo Olanlege, the former Chairman of Ekiti State Football Association and CEO of Phoenix Athletics Sports Limited, expounded on this concept, emphasizing its potential to promote youth socialization and development in Ekiti State.

Dubbed the Bet9ja Foundation Triple Slam (BFTS), the event is set to take place in February 2024. This unique gathering will feature a blend of rap music, dance performances, and a 3×3 basketball competition.

Olanlege emphasized that the event welcomes participants aged 18 and above, encompassing both male and female dancers, rap aficionados, and skilled 3×3 basketball players. He underscored the cultural aspect of the initiative, expressing the intention to provide Ekiti’s youth with an additional platform for enjoyment. Importantly, the event is not designed for commercial gain, ensuring the preservation of its primary purpose.

“It’s about cultivating a cultural experience and establishing an additional platform for Ekiti youths to have fun. Our goal is not to commercialize the event, so the essence remains intact. Ultimately, we aim to nurture talents and encourage the personal development of young individuals,” Olanlege remarked.

He highlighted the historical significance of such platforms, noting that renowned artists like D Plantashun Boiz once honed their skills in similar events before achieving fame. Olanlege expressed confidence that the Bet9ja Foundation Triple Slam would serve as a catalyst for aspiring talents.

Addressing the broader impact on Ekiti State, Olanlege explained that the event’s overarching goal is to rejuvenate the sports and entertainment sectors, positioning Ekiti as an appealing destination on the global stage.

“People are drawn to destinations for various reasons, especially for exploration and leisure. Just as individuals flock to Paris and Dubai, we envision adding similar value to Ekiti, enticing sports and entertainment enthusiasts to our state. In turn, this influx of visitors will positively impact the local economy,” he elaborated.
