In a significant move, the Board members of all Plateau State Sports Associations have been dissolved, marking the end of a four-year tenure.
The dissolution was announced on July 25, 2024, by Prof. Ezra Gunen, Director of Sports, who represented Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development.
“The dissolution became necessary to pave the way for another round of elections to usher in new Board members,” Prof. Gunen explained.
“We thank the outgoing Board members for their contributions and selfless service to the development of Sports in Plateau. Their sacrifices and commitment to sports have not gone unnoticed.”
As Prof. Gunen noted, “Sports competitions requiring funds of less than 1 million, the Council, in conjunction with the Board members, source for money to prosecute such competitions.” This commitment to supporting sports development in the state is expected to continue under the new Board members.
Hon. Suleiman Kwande, Chairman of the Plateau Football Association, expressed gratitude to the Sports Council and Ministry, saying, “We appreciate the administration of His Excellency, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, for giving attention to all Sports in the state.”
With the dissolution taking effect, fresh elections will be conducted after the Paris Olympics, from July 26 to August 11, 2024. This marks a new chapter for sports in Plateau State, with opportunities for growth and development under new leadership.
