The North-Central Zonal Eliminations for Team Sports, in preparation for the 2024 National Youth Games, are set to take place from August 28th to August 31st, 2024, in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
In a Press Release on the upcoming event, Alfred Gonyok, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Sports Council, stated, “We have put all necessary modalities in place to ensure the successful hosting of teams from across the North-Central zone. This includes participants from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, and the FCT.”
All states within the zone, including Plateau, will compete for qualifying spots in seven male and female team sports. These sports include Football, Handball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Hockey, Cricket, and Indoor Volleyball. However, Gonyok noted, “Plateau State will be competing in all sports, with the exception of Indoor Volleyball.”
The state contingents will be camped at Government College Jos, arriving on August 28th and departing on August 31st after the competition. Gonyok confirmed, “All events are scheduled to take place at Rwang Pam Stadium, St. John’s College, and Rayfield Sports Centre.”
As the competition progresses, two teams each, for both male and female categories, are expected to qualify for the main Games in Delta State, which will be held from September 9th to 19th, 2024.
