The Governor Caleb Mutfwang Badminton Championship 2024 has officially commenced at the National Sports Commission Indoor Hall in Jos, Plateau State. Organized by Rockcity Badminton Club in collaboration with the Plateau State Badminton Association and Badminton Clubs in Nigeria (ABCIN), the tournament has attracted athletes and spectators from across the country.
In his opening remarks, Habila Sambo, Chairman of Rockcity Badminton Club, expressed his joy at the successful arrival of athletes and the smooth start to the games. “We’re thrilled to see such a turnout and have our players here safely,” he stated. “The energy here on the first day is incredible, and we’re expecting even more excitement in the coming days.”

The championship, themed “Sustainable Peace on the Plateau,” aligns with the agenda of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, emphasizing unity and peaceful coexistence within Plateau State.
Rayfield, in Jos South, the area surrounding the competition venue, has already seen an economic boost, as local businesses report increased activity thanks to the influx of attendees.
Several dignitaries are expected to attend the championship, including Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and His Royal Highness the Mai Barde of Yobe State. Host Governor Caleb Mutfwang is also expected to make an appearance, underscoring the importance of this event for the region.
Among the players is Mr. Jinkan, a former national champion who has returned to Jos to participate in the tournament, adding a sense of prestige to the competition.
The championship has drawn a large crowd, with 32 clubs from 24 states participating, totaling 310 athletes, including both active competitors and veterans. The event runs from Wednesday, November 6, to Saturday, November 9, 2024, promising a thrilling few days for badminton enthusiasts and sports fans alike.
