It was a day of shared purpose and optimism as the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Football Association (FA) Chairman, Hon. Sulieman Kwande on Friday, 17th of January 2025.
Known for his visionary leadership, Hon. Kwande warmly welcomed the delegation, setting the tone for a conversation centered on collaboration and progress.
“The FA has come a long way,” he noted, reflecting on the progress made under his administration. “But no success stands alone. Collaboration is key, and I applaud SWAN for recognising this.” His appreciation resonated with the delegation, who had witnessed significant improvements, including smoother access to stadiums since his tenure began.
SWAN’s Chairman, Alfred Saiki, led the delegation in pledging their support to amplify the FA’s efforts. “You’ve been doing a lot, and it’s time the world hears those stories,” Saiki stated. “We are committed to showcasing your achievements across all platforms and in every way possible.”
Hon. Kwande took the opportunity to share his broader vision. “My dream is to see us working together under one roof—an office complex where the FA, SWAN, referees, and coaches can collaborate seamlessly,” he said passionately.
He also encouraged expanding SWAN’s focus beyond football. “Sports is more than just football,” he pointed out. “SWAN must rise to tell stories from all disciplines—athletics, basketball, and even para soccer, which I’m determined to integrate into the FA’s framework.”
Such initiatives, he explained, would not only elevate Plateau State but also position SWAN Plateau for global recognition. “This is a small step for us, but it could put SWAN Plateau on the global stage,” he emphasised.
Hon. Ezra Godit, the FA’s First Vice Chairman, expressed similar sentiments, acknowledging the potential of a united approach. “SWAN’s support is invaluable. Together, we can achieve much more than we ever could apart,” he affirmed.
As the meeting drew to a close, the sense of unity and shared purpose was unmistakable. For Hon. Kwande, SWAN, and the FA, the visit marked not just a dialogue but the foundation of a transformative partnership aimed at advancing sports in Plateau State.
This vision of collaboration promises to shape a brighter future, bringing together diverse stakeholders under a shared roof of progress.
