The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Plateau State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Alfred Saiki, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Information and Communications on January 22, 2025. The meeting was held at the Plateau State Secretariat, with the Honourable Commissioner, Musa Ashoms, receiving the delegation.
Hon. Ashoms warmly welcomed the SWAN delegation and extended his congratulations to the new Executive Committee. He commended the association’s efforts in promoting sports in Plateau State, citing their contributions to initiatives like the Governor’s Cup. Stressing the importance of collective efforts, he noted that partnerships with organizations like SWAN are essential for achieving sustainable sports development.
The commissioner also referenced the ongoing renovation of the Rwang Pam Stadium, emphasizing that the government alone cannot achieve all its goals and expressing optimism about SWAN’s potential to strengthen collaboration for the advancement of sports in the state.
During the visit, SWAN Chairman Alfred Saiki conveyed belated birthday wishes to the commissioner and introduced the newly elected Executive Committee. He reiterated the association’s commitment to supporting the government’s innovative ideas and maintaining solidarity with the Ministry.
The Chairman requested the Ministry’s assistance in facilitating timely access to government information to enhance SWAN’s coverage of sports activities. He also highlighted plans for capacity-building training for members and called for the Ministry’s partnership in advocacy and awareness campaigns to promote sports across the state.
Key officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jonah Bagbong; Director, Mrs. Hannatu Dusu; and Mrs. Ladi Emmanuel, attended the meeting. They expressed support for SWAN’s initiatives and pledged to collaborate with the association to achieve shared goals.
This visit highlights the shared commitment of SWAN and the Ministry of Information to fostering partnerships and driving sports development in Plateau State.
