The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Plateau State chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of sports in the state following its maiden congress meeting under the new executive committee. The congress, which took place on Friday, February 7, 2025, was presided over by SWAN Plateau State Chairman, Alfred Saiki.
In its communique, SWAN commended the Plateau State Government for initiating the remodeling of the Rwang Pam Stadium and urged further action toward the completion of the Zaria Road Stadium. The association also acknowledged the government’s investment in sports.
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE SWAN PLATEAU STATE CONGRESS HELD ON FRIDAY, 7TH OF February, 2025 .
- SWAN commends the Plateau State Government for commencing the remodeling of the Rwang Pam Stadium and urges the government to look into the completion of the Zaria Road stadium.
- SWAN also commends the state government for revamping sports in Plateau State, including the sponsoring of hockey and handball teams to international tournaments.
- SWAN asks the football teams on the Plateau to up their treatment of sports journalists.
- SWAN also expresses grave concern over the underperformance of Plateau United and urges the management of the club to do all within its powers to ensure that the team is not relegated at the end of the season.
- The Association encourages Mighty Jets to keep up the effort to ensure that promotion is achieved at the end of the current campaign.
- SWAN heartily congratulates the newly appointed Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Musa Ashoms. SWAN looks forward to collaborating and supporting him in the interest of sports development in the state.
- SWAN commends the leadership of the Plateau State Football Association for its various grassroots sports initiatives and the deployment of security personnel during matches at the New Jos International Stadium.
- SWAN commends the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Plateau State government, Dr Gyang Bere, for organising the Vwang Unity football tournament and urges other individuals, philanthropists and organisations to complement government efforts in sports development.
- The congress also appealed that the welfare and training of athletes in the state be of topmost priority, especially in view of the forthcoming sports festival.
