The final qualifiers for the North Central Zonal Elimination ahead of the National Sports Festival, Ogun 2025, have been concluded, with Plateau State emerging as a dominant force in multiple sporting categories.
The state secured eight qualification slots—three from first-place finishes and five from second-place finishes—cementing its reputation as a sports powerhouse in the region.
In basketball, Plateau’s male team clinched 1st place, while their female counterparts finished 2nd behind FCT. The state also dominated hockey, securing the top spot in both male and female categories. Plateau’s presence was further felt in beach volleyball, volleyball, and handball, where their teams finished 2nd in various contests.
Meanwhile, FCT led the pack in beach volleyball, basketball, handball, and football, showcasing its depth across multiple disciplines. Kwara and Kogi also had strong showings, with Kwara taking 1st in cricket (male) and volleyball (male), while Kogi triumphed in female cricket and handball.
With the zonal qualifiers now settled, all eyes are set on Ogun 2025, where these teams will compete at the national stage, representing the North Central region with pride and determination.
