PLATEAU TEENS SHINE AT NATIONAL U-12 & U-15 HANDBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

HANDBALL

The Umuahia Township Stadium in Abia State came alive as it hosted the National Under-12 and Under-15 Handball Championship from March 18th to 29th, 2025.

 

Representing Plateau State, the U-15 girls’ team and the U-12 boys’ team faced tough competition from 10 other teams, including Abia, Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Sokoto, Niger, Osun, and Kwara states, as well as C&S Academic and Boku Academy.

Despite the challenge, the Plateau U-15 girls showcased resilience and skill, securing a commendable third-place finish and bringing home the bronze medal. The U-12 boys also put up a strong fight, finishing in fifth place.

 

Welcoming the athletes and officials on April 2nd, 2025, the Director of Sports, Prof. Ezra Gunen, credited Governor Mutfwang’s unwavering support, the athletes’ hard work, and the dedication of their coaches for the team’s success. He assured that this achievement would drive further investment in handball development.

During the presentation of the third-place trophy, bronze medals, and certificates, the Handball Association reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the teams—especially the boys’ squad—to ensure they justify the government’s continued investment in their growth.
