The stage was set at the Rwang Pam Stadium on April 10th, 2025, for a thrilling showdown at the FISU Table Tennis Trials. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the finest talents from Nigeria’s universities clashed for a coveted spot on the national team to represent the country at the World University Games in Germany this July.

Male Final:
In the Men’s final, John Mathew of Benson Idahosa University (BIU) displayed unparalleled skill and resilience to defeat Surmer Qudus of Lagos State University (LASU) in a gripping 3-1 victory. The first two sets were a commanding performance by Mathew, winning 11-3 and 11-3. Qudus fought back with a spirited 8-11 win in the third, but Mathew’s determination shone through as he sealed the victory with a final 11-8 scoreline. John Mathew’s victory not only earned him the title of Male Table Tennis Champion at the FISU Trials but also secured his place to represent Nigeria on the world stage.

Female Final:
The Women’s final witnessed a fierce contest between Hope Udoka of BIU and Jimoh Rufiath of LASU. The first set went decisively in favor of Udoka, who won 11-2. Rufiath rallied back in a nail-biting second set, narrowly edging out Udoka 14-12. However, Udoka regained control with dominant 11-6 and 11-8 victories in the following sets, sealing her 3-1 win and claiming the title of Female Table Tennis Champion. Hope Udoka’s victory cements her place as a representative for Nigeria at the World University Games.
