From the very moment he assumed office as the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, made it abundantly clear that he was driven by a passion for development and an unwavering commitment to delivering good governance.
Since taking the oath of office on May 29, 2023, the captain of the “The Time Is Now” mantra has made significant progress in restoring peace and stability to Plateau State, especially in crisis-prone areas like Mangu, Bokkos, Bassa, and other local government areas previously plagued by violence before his emergence.
Governor Mutfwang’s proactive approach to security includes personally engaging with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other key security stakeholders. These high-level interventions have led to strategic responses that have greatly improved the security landscape of Plateau State, creating an enabling environment for economic activities to thrive.
A key highlight of his administration’s security strategy is the revitalization of the once-moribund state-owned outfit, Operation Rainbow. This has strengthened the collaboration between community members and security agencies, leading to a noticeable reduction in attacks and increased safety for citizens over the past two years.
However, as is often the case, progress sometimes attracts resistance. The tragic and orchestrated attacks on communities in Bokkos Local Government Area last week appear to be the handiwork of enemies of peace who are unhappy with the Governor’s gains in security and economic stability.
In the wake of the attacks, Governor Mutfwang demonstrated exceptional leadership. He took swift and proactive measures by providing relief materials, shelter, medical care to survivors and established a task force to prevent future occurrences. His visits to Hurti, Daho, and other heavily affected areas where he personally interacted with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) showed a deep sense of empathy and responsibility.
Beyond security, the Mutfwang administration has pursued a holistic governance agenda that cuts across ethnic, political, cultural, and religious lines. This inclusivity is evident in his pattern of appointments and policy directions.
The Governor has also engaged professionals and experts—both locally and in the diaspora—on initiatives aimed at repositioning Plateau State. Among his notable social welfare policies is the introduction of free transportation for senior citizens aged 70 and above, subsidized metro-bus services, and revitalization of railway lines within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, offering crucial relief to citizens at a time when transport costs have soared due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
In the area of workers’ welfare, the administration has cleared inherited salary arrears, approved the payment of gratuities, and implemented hazard allowances for health workers. Furthermore, the Governor has supported education and agriculture by bailing out Plateau State Polytechnic, securing scholarships, and revitalizing key agricultural services.
Governor Mutfwang has also sustained and supported the sports sector, particularly football, which continues to serve as a tool for unity, social engagement, and youth empowerment across the state.
Clearly, Governor Mutfwang holds the welfare of Plateau State and its people in high esteem and remains resolute in his vision to make the state greater. His commitment demands our collective resolve to support and consolidate the gains of his administration under the “The Time Is Now” philosophy.
Long live Nigeria.
Long live Plateau State.
Long live the PDP.
