GANG JAMES STRIKES GOLD IN 1,500M, EXTENDS PLATEAU’S DOMINANCE IN DISTANCE EVENT

GANG JAMES

Team Plateau’s legacy in middle- and long-distance running continues to shine at the Gateway Games, as Gang James Boyi delivered a brilliant performance to win gold in the men’s 1,500m with a time of 3:54.27.

Interestingly, the 1,500m was not his original focus at this competition. Gang’s main event — the 5,000m — was cancelled, forcing a change in plans. He went on to compete in the 3,000m steeplechase instead, where he ran a strong race and earned a silver medal, before bouncing back to claim gold in the 1,500m.

Speaking after the race, Coach Danjuma Gyang Davou revealed that the athletes were rigorously trained and camped ahead of the Sports Festival. “We came prepared,” he said, confidently promising six gold medals in athletics for Plateau State. With three already secured, the team is right on track.

Team Plateau’s medals in Athletics so far:

  1. Patience Dalyop – Gold (Women’s 5000m)
  2. Francis James – Gold (Men’s 10,000m)
  3. Gang James Boyi – Gold (Men’s 1,500m)
  4. Gang James Boyi – Silver (Men’s 3,000m Steeplechase)

Total in Athletics:

  • 3 Gold
  • 1 Silver

With determination, flexibility, and hard work, Plateau’s track stars are making their mark — no matter the event.
