As Plateau State continues to celebrate Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s second year in office, the spirit of unity and youth engagement was on full display in Jos yesterday through an exciting basketball and volleyball novelty match.
Organized by the Plateau State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, the event brought life and color to the Azi Nyako Youth Center in Dadin Kowa, Jos South LGA. The celebration kicked off with an energetic drumming session and a captivating dance performance by children, thrilling the audience and setting a vibrant tone for the day.
In the volleyball contest, Team Patrick outshone Team Pwajok by winning two straight sets. Meanwhile, in the basketball game, the Male U-18 team clinched a 51-41 victory over the Mutfwang All-Stars in a spirited match that drew cheers from the crowd.

Hon. Ashoms expressed his delight during a media chat, praising Governor Mutfwang’s impactful leadership:
“Plateau has gotten it right in the last two years. The direction and commitment of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, have reshaped our state positively. This novelty match is our own way of honoring and celebrating him.”
He added that grassroots sports development will remain a priority, as the state gears up for better performance at the upcoming National Sports Festival in Enugu State.

Chairman of the Plateau State Basketball Association, Chollom Lomak—who also participated in the match as a Mutfwang All-Stars player—noted that the event provided valuable exposure for the U-18 team ahead of the CDS Games in Abuja.

Mrs. Bolcit Barshep Amakiri of the Plateau State Volleyball Association also commended both local and diaspora players for their recent success at the National Sports Festival, where Plateau State Volleyball Team earned a silver medal.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Chairman of Quanpan LGC, Christopher Walat; Jos North LGC Chairman, John K. Chris; Jos South LGC Chairman, Silas Dung; and the Commissioner for Urban Development, Sylvanus Dongtoe, among others.
