The Government of Plateau State last month announced a change in the leadership of Plateau United Football Club, bringing the tenure of the club’s former General Manager, Hosea Mutla, to an end following the expiration of his two-year contract.
Contrary to reports and assumptions suggesting that Mr. Mutla was sacked, official clarifications reveal that the government simply chose not to renew his contract, which was originally awarded for a fixed two-year term at the time of his appointment in 2023.
A government source familiar with the development explained that the decision aligns with the new direction and vision the administration seeks for Plateau United FC.
According to the source, the expiration of Mr. Mutla’s tenure provided an opportunity for a strategic reset that reflects the priorities of the current administration under Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang.
“This is not a case of dismissal or termination,” the official emphasized. “Mr. Mutla’s contract ran its full course. The government appreciates his service and contributions to Plateau United, but we are now charting a new course that requires fresh leadership and ideas to reposition the club in line with broader reforms in the sports sector.”
The move is seen as part of a broader effort by the state government to reposition Plateau United as a competitive, modern, and innovative football club capable of contending for domestic honors and making an impact on the continental stage.
The government expressed its appreciation to Hosea Mutla for his service and transitioned him to the SA to the governor on Grassroot Soccer, while assuring stakeholders of a seamless transition that will not disrupt the club’s preseason preparations.
