As the countdown begins for the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, the Plateau State contingent has stepped up preparations with a one-week camping exercise, demonstrating both readiness and determination to make the state proud on the national stage.

The Plateau athletes had earlier featured in the Zonal Eliminations held in Ilorin, Kwara State, where they secured qualifications in three team events — male beach volleyball, female hockey, and male football.

With the Games scheduled to hold from August 26 to September 6, 2025, the contingent is expected to travel straight from camp to Asaba, ensuring that the athletes remain focused and fully prepared for the competition.

Plateau State will participate in a total of 25 sports in this year’s edition, with the opening ceremony set for August 29 and the closing ceremony on September 6. Plateau State is poised to make a strong showing, building on its tradition of excellence in grassroots sports development.

The success recorded so far, and the ongoing preparations, have been made possible by the unwavering support of the Plateau State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. Through the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, led by Hon. Musa Ashoms, the government has continued to demonstrate genuine commitment to nurturing young talents and promoting sports as a tool for unity, empowerment, and development.

Sports analysts have described the government’s intervention — particularly in funding, logistics, and athlete welfare — as a morale booster that has significantly raised the confidence of the athletes ahead of the Games.

As the Plateau contingent heads into the National Youth Games, expectations are high that the combination of talent, preparation, and government support will yield outstanding results, further cementing Plateau’s reputation as a breeding ground for sporting excellence in Nigeria.
