The second phase of the Zenith Bank NBBF Women’s League tipped off yesterday in Jos, Plateau State, delivering drama and surprises on opening day.
Topping the headlines was a shock defeat for high-flying Air Warriors, who came into the phase as leaders of the Savannah Conference. In a nail-biting clash at the National Sports Commission Indoor Sports Hall, Rayfield, Nigeria Customs pulled off a statement victory, edging the Warriors 69-64. The result keeps Customs firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish in the conference.
For hosts Plateau Rocks, it was another disappointing outing as they fell 46-58 to Royal Aces. Despite showing promise in the opening quarter, where they narrowly trailed 12-13, the Rocks faltered in the second and third quarters, conceding 12-16 and 11-18 respectively. Though they held their own in the final quarter (11-11), the damage had already been done.
Elsewhere, Titans dominated Ham Warriors 70-40 to round off day one action.
The competition continues today with three fixtures:
-
Nigeria Customs vs Titans (12 PM)
-
Royal Aces vs Ham Warriors (2 PM)
-
Plateau Rocks vs Air Warriors (4 PM)
