Team Plateau recorded a mixed bag of results on Day 2 of the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, clinching their first medal of the competition while also posting impressive performances across different sports.
Karateka Onanefe Samuel delivered Plateau’s first medal after a spirited run, defeating opponents from Abia, Kwara, and Anambra on his way to the final. He eventually settled for silver after losing to his counterpart from host state Delta.
In football, the male team secured a crucial 1-0 win over Adamawa in an action-packed encounter, keeping alive their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

Other results in Karate saw Precious Wazari win her opening bout in the +47kg female category but bow out in the subsequent round. In weightlifting, Dachollom Jato placed 7th in the +60kg class with a lift of 67kg snatch and 75kg clean and jerk. Meanwhile, Joy Emmanuel narrowly lost 2-1 to her FCT rival in the round of 16.
With several events lined up for Day 3, Team Plateau will be in action across boxing, football, cycling, beach volleyball, gymnastics, kokowa, taekwondo, and hockey, as the athletes continue their hunt for more medals.
