The screening and accreditation of athletes for the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) is progressing smoothly at the University of Jos as preparations heighten for the 2024 edition of the Games, set to hold later this year in Plateau State.

Chairman of the University of Jos Sports Committee, Mr. Ishaya Pam, said the exercise, which commenced last week, has been largely hitch-free, with ICT teams from different parts of the country handling registrations efficiently.

“So far, the process has been going well. We are fully preparing for the opening ceremony on November 5, and from the progress we’ve made, we are confident that everything will be ready before that date,” he stated.

Pam noted that the screening is almost completed, with only a few outstanding cases under consideration. These, he explained, involve students who do not meet certain requirements such as the provision of matriculation numbers. He, however, assured that the accreditation team is working closely with the University to resolve the cases swiftly.

Reaffirming the University’s commitment, Pam stressed that only eligible athletes will be cleared to participate, as part of efforts to guarantee transparency, fairness, and compliance with NUGA standards.

The University of Jos is hosting the NUGA Games for the first time, and organizers have assured that the event will meet both national and international standards, further showcasing Plateau State as a hub for sports development.
