2025 Governor’s Cup: Riyom Edges Jos South 1–0 as Mutfwang Solidarity Cup Begins in Colorful Jos East Opening

The 2025 Governor’s Cup, popularly known as the Mutfwang Solidarity Cup, kicked off in grand style on Monday at GSS Federe, Angware, Jos East LGA, with Riyom LGA defeating Jos South 1–0 in the tournament’s opening match.

The ceremony, graced by dignitaries, football stakeholders and supporters from across Plateau State, showcased the tournament’s vision of unity, youth engagement and grassroots talent discovery.

The Executive Chairman of Jos East LGA, Mr. Markus Usaini Nyam, performed the ceremonial kickoff, marking the official start of an event featuring all 17 LGAs in the state.

Riyom’s Utibe Emmanuel Isaac scored the only goal of the match, becoming the first goalscorer of the 2025 edition. He dedicated his strike to God and expressed his desire to help Riyom go all the way to the final.

Despite the loss, Jos South players remained optimistic about progressing from their group.

Riyom’s coach applauded his team for tactical discipline, while Riyom LGA Chairman, Mr. Sati Shuwa, emphasized that the tournament promotes unity, love and peaceful competition among communities.

The 2025 Mutfwang Solidarity Cup continues this week with matches across the LGAs as Plateau looks to uncover its next generation of football stars.
