Chairman of the Plateau Football Association (PFA), Hon. (Dr.) Prince Suleiman Y. Kwande, has promised a higher-quality and more impactful edition of the Governor’s Cup as the 2025 tournament kicked off in Jos East.

Speaking after the opening ceremony and the Riyom vs Jos South encounter, Kwande described the competition as a milestone in the state’s journey toward grassroots excellence.

“This year’s edition will be special,” Kwande declared. “We are involving coaches from Plateau United and Mighty Jets in the scouting process so that outstanding talents are properly monitored and developed.”

Kwande revealed that a standout player—wearing jersey number 11—caught the attention of selectors on opening day, reinforcing the value of the expanded scouting structure.

He further announced that the PFA plans to organize a post-tournament mini competition, after which the best-performing players will form an ALGON XI team to be registered for the Challenge Cup.

The PFA Chairman applauded Governor Mutfwang and all 17 LGA chairmen for supporting grassroots football, saying their involvement is ushering in a refreshed ecosystem of development, administration, and opportunity.
