Plateau State is set to ignite the national sporting scene as it prepares to host the 17th edition of the NICARDGA (Nigeria College of Agriculture and Related Disciplines Games) from November 23 to December 7, 2025.

With activities spread across Vom and Kuru, preparations are in full swing ahead of the official opening ceremony on November 26, which promises a colourful and memorable display.

At a press briefing with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Plateau State Chapter, the co-hosting provosts shared their excitement and reaffirmed the significance of the games to the state.

Dr. Chukwu, who doubles as Chairman of the National Committee of Provosts for Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines, highlighted the seamless collaboration between NICARDGA and the Plateau State Government.

“We enjoy a very good relationship with the Ministry of Sports and the Plateau State Government. Anything that promotes Plateau, they are fully committed to. We see ourselves as partners in progress. These games will promote peace, showcase what Plateau has to offer, and reveal the hidden potential of our students not only academically, but also in sports,” he said.

This year’s NICARDGA Games will feature nearly 30 colleges from across the country competing in 10 sporting events, including football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, chess, scrabble, badminton, athletics, and ayo.

For Plateau State, the event offers more than just competition—it presents a national platform to showcase unity, talent, and the vibrant sporting culture the state is known for.

Beyond the medals, the games create opportunities for young athletes to take the next step in their sporting careers. Plateau’s elite clubs—Plateau United FC and Mighty Jets FC—are expected to visit the venues for scouting, giving outstanding players a chance to break into the NLO, NNL, and even the NPFL.

Athletes in other sports also stand to gain, as standout performers could earn pathways to represent Plateau, feature in national competitions, or even rise to international prominence.
